One of our lawyers Laura Pinkney has won the Young Solicitor of the Year award at this year’s Nottingham Law Society annual dinner.

Laura joined the firm as a placement student in 2002 and returned on a permanent basis in 2004 following her graduation from university. She is part of the Cartwright King’s business defence team, specialising in high value fraud, money laundering and confiscation matters.

The Nottingham Law Society awards recognise the achievements of local lawyers, with categories including Trainee Solicitor of the Year, Young Solicitor of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award.  Laura was presented her trophy by Stephen Warner, President of the Nottinghamshire Law Society.

Laura said “I am really honoured to receive this award, it means a lot to me to gain such recognition. Cartwright King has given me the opportunity to work on numerous interesting and high profile cases providing me with invaluable skills and experience, especially at this stage in my career. ”
Michael Thurston, managing director, said “We are proud of Laura and of what she has achieved whilst at Cartwright King, especially in high profiles cases such as the Rampton Hospital smoking ban case which attracted wide ranging media attention when at the Court of Appeal.  She richly deserves this award.”

Laura is also a committee member for the Nottinghamshire Junior Lawyer’s Division (JLD), a division of the law society which represents all student members of the Law Society enrolled through the Solicitors Regulation Authority, paralegals, trainees, and solicitors with up to five years' active post-qualification expertise.  It was set up as a specific group within the Law Society to provide junior lawyers with support, advice, information and networking opportunities and also organises various social events.
