Leading Midlands law firm Cartwright King is celebrating its tenth
anniversary.
Mark Wilson, head of Business Defence is acting
for Milan Mandaric, the Chairman of Leicester City Football Club, in
the case that has been brought against him and Harry Redknapp by HMRC
alleging tax evasion when they were both at Portsmouth Football Club.
After
representing Mr Mandaric at the first appearance, Mark took the unusual
step of making a statement to the press and television on the steps of
Westminster Magistrates Court.
"We
are surprised and extremely disappointed that the authorities have seen
fit to prosecute Mr Mandaric. The case against him is misconceived and
thoroughly ill judged. It should never have been brought and it goes
without saying that it will be very robustly defended. Mr
Mandaric has contributed an enormous amount to English football in
recent years, first at Portsmouth and now at Leicester City. In forty
years of business life, his integrity has never been previously
questioned. To put it mildly, it is a matter of very great regret that
the tax authorities have sought, so recklessly, to accuse him now.
However,
we are absolutely confident that this prosecution will fail. Mr
Mandaric looks forward to emerging from these proceedings completely
vindicated and with his reputation for honesty and integrity completely
untouched."
