Cartwright King Ranked Highly By Chambers UK Guide

Leading East Midlands criminal and business defence law firm Cartwright King, which has offices in Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Sheffield, has again been highly rated in its specialist niche fields in the recently published Chambers UK Guide which independently researches and ranks the UK’s legal profession.

The Business Defence division of the firm was recognised nationally - the only one in the Midlands - for its business crime, and Cartwright King was particularly noted for their expertise in a full spectrum of fraud matters, and for money laundering, confiscation and asset freezing and recovery cases. Individual business defence partners have been also been praised: Lynn Bleakley for being “vastly experienced” and Mark Wilson is noted for “heading up the business defence team and a supervisor on the Specialist Fraud Panel.” Michael Thurston is also mentioned for being “renowned for his fraud and corporate crime practice.”

The Crime defence division is also commended for retaining its reputation as one of the leaders of the pack. Market observers have described the firm as “doing a fine steady job”.

Simon Chaplin is specifically mentioned for carving out a niche in traffic and serious crime cases. Stephen Gelsthorpe’s focus is in the Magistrates' Court and Jill Hawkins is named as an expert in youth court matters.

Ghuffar Usman of the Firm’s Immigration team is also recognised by Chambers as a notable practitioner for his work.

“We are delighted to have been rated so highly by the 2009 edition of Chambers UK Guide in three of the niche fields in which we practice namely Business Defence, Crime and Immigration,” said Michael Thurston, managing partner of Cartwright King. “It echoes what Legal 500 published recently and serves to reinforce our position as the Midlands firm for criminal and business defence.”
