Cartwright King to Expand It's Higher Court Advocacy Team

Print this page

Leading Midlands based business and criminal defence firm Cartwright King is set to increase its Higher Courts Advocacy (HCA) work further in response to a growing demand for its services which enable clients to have representation from one firm throughout the entire court process.

Cartwright King recruited a London barrister Harry Bowyer last year to work alongside the firm’s senior Higher Courts Advocate, Alwyn Jones, who is also a partner within the firm, to handle exclusively HCA work. They in turn head a team of HCA trained lawyers who are able to represent clients through Magistrates Courts, Crown Courts and the Court of Appeal. It means that the vast majority of HCA work is now handled in house at Cartwright King rather than having to be outsourced to external barristers as was the case in the past. It means continuity of service for clients throughout the court process leading to a more cost effective alternative to the traditional approach.

The Cartwright King team are now working on cases throughout the UK and the firm is seeking to appoint a further barrister to join the team so that they can expand further.

“I do believe that this one-stop shop approach is more beneficial for the client and I am sure that this trend will continue,” said Steve Gelsthorpe, the partner who heads up the HCA department at Cartwright King. “As a result we need to expand this team by recruiting both internally and externally particularly through the appointment of an additional barrister.”

He went on to say “Our rigorous and continuing training programme ensures that everyone who joins the team is able to provide all our clients appearing before the Higher Courts with first class representation together with sound and effective advice”.
